TYKOCIN
Today Tykocin it’s a small village on the Narew river, yet it has a long and interesting history. It’s very picturesque, no wonder it became the stage for a few historic films.
After arrival you will have free time to have lunch in one of the traditional restaurants at the old market square. Then you will visit one of the oldest wooden houses in the main street with furniture and equipment typical for the beginning of the 20th century in Poland. Next stop on your route – the magnificent synagogue built in the 17th century when Tykocin had an important Jewish community. The walls of the synagogue are decorated with 19th century inscriptions in Hebrew and Aramaic. The building survived the last was as one of very synagogues in this part of the country.
Another attraction of Tykocin is its rebuilt castle. There you will go back in time to the 16th century when the castle was the main residence of the Polish king Sigismund Augustus.
TREBLINKA
On this tour you will discover one of the most important places related to the Holocaust and the history of the WWII. In the middle of the woods you will find the territory of the former death camp in Treblinka. Here around 800,000 people were killed in 1942-1943. Although all the original buildings of the camp were destroyed, the place is worth visiting. The guide will give you a fascinating insight about Poland under Nazi occupation. Moreover, you will see one of the most beautiful monuments commemorating the victims of the Holocaust.
In the museum you will see a model of the camp while the guide will tell you its history and explain the way the camp functioned. You will also have a chance to read the witnesses’ accounts and letters.
